The Forman community commemorated the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, January 20th. We welcomed speaker Edward G. Young III to campus, who reflected on Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech and how the dream is still relevant today. Edward shared his personal story of overcoming adversity, led a high-five for love moment, and inspired students to stand up for others and bring justice to light.
Our Black Student Union and several colleagues recited Dr. King’s iconic speech for the community. Students concluded the day’s activities by preparing bagged lunches for the Community Kitchen of Torrington, a local soup kitchen, as part of the National Day of Service.
“Thanks tremendously to Forman School for their generous food donation,” the Community Kitchen of Torrington shared on Facebook. “They gifted us with over 100 bagged lunches to provide to the community of Torrington. Additionally, every bag had hand-written notes of affirmation! The amount of time it took to prepare the lunches AND literally hand write notes, transcended our typical donation.”
