Learning spaces designed by experts

Students are centered in everything at Forman—even the built environment is shaped to their needs. Classrooms integrate SMART Boards, ergonomic seating, and iPads with organizational and speech-to-text apps.

Specialist learning hubs, designed with leading architecture firms, compel students to focus and bring their best: be it in our Science Center—with its own rain garden—or the breathtaking 22,000-square-foot Visual and Performing Arts Center.

The Barbara B. Chace ’87 Library

Students access vital resources and technology across this warm, two-floor building, with breakout spaces for individual and group study.

Science Center

The 9,000-square-foot site comprises four large labs, two smaller classrooms, study rooms, and a common room. Learning spaces integrate everything from iPads with Epson BrightLink screens to live recording technology.

Robotics Lab

As the nerve center for Forman’s Robotics Team—who compete in VEX EDR competitions year-round—this lab includes spaces for design and testing, alongside a mini arena.

Promethean Lab

A high-tech lab geared toward creative exploration and prototyping. It houses a 3D printer; vinyl cutter; a laser cutter and engraver; plasma cutter; welder; industry-leading CAD, architecture, and animation software; a format plotter; and milling machines.

Visual and Performing Arts Center

Performers, musicians, and artists excel in professional-grade facilities. Among them: exhibition spaces, rehearsal rooms, a dance studio, a soundproof recording studio, a photography darkroom, a green screen, and a two-floor classroom wing.

Located in the Visual and Performing Arts Center, the studio contains two kilns, electric potter’s wheels, plus indoor and outdoor throwing areas.

Jake Cloobeck ’16 Theater

An intimate 300-seat space where cultural productions and all-school meetings are staged. Included are a control room, dressing rooms, a scene shop, a loading dock, a costume department, and more.

Olson Outdoor Education Center

Surrounded by greenery, the center is a fully equipped woodworking shop and home of Forman’s Boat Building program.

Lion’s Den Bistro

Tucked inside Forman’s Malcolm G. Chace Student Center, our eatery offers students the chance to master food preparation and cooking skills alongside a professional chef.

Dorms by numbers

Around 200 boarders reside in 15 single-sex dorms, mostly in double rooms (though there are some singles and triples). All dorms have two dorm parents—members of faculty who live on site and are attuned to student needs.

A place to board and belong

For teens with learning differences, dorm living streamlines the clutter of daily life: no sleeping in, missed breakfasts, or transport to manage. Our dorms are safe, tight-knit mini-communities on campus, outfitted with all the comforts of home.

Amenities

Every dorm room has a shared mini fridge, twin XL beds, individual dressers, closets, and desks. With TVs, microwaves, and communal seating, common areas are perfect for movie nights.

From dining hall to study hall

Students are served up a fresh, seasonal menu by professional caterers daily—breakfast, lunch, and dinner. From 8:00 until 9:30 each weeknight, boarders attend mandatory study hall. (Study hall is optional for day students.)

Mind-body growth and new adventures await.

Whether indoors or outdoors, energizing or unwinding, there’s a wealth of places to reconnect with yourself—and others—on campus. Be it specialty playing fields and courts, a well-equipped gym, gardens, or the Malcolm G. Chace Student Center game room, there’s a place and activity for every mood.

Athletes train weekly across campus—be it our baseball field, basketball and tennis courts, a cross-country trail, or the Athletic Center, which includes a wrestling room and workout space.

During open times at the Visual and Performing Arts Center, students can experiment with new projects, materials, and techniques in various creative studios.

Our game room is an ideal hangout: there are air hockey, pool, and foosball tables, video games, and classic pinball machines. (It’s also stocked with old-school pleasures, from playing cards to board games.)
