Acclaimed Director, Producer Norman Jewison To Serve As Forman Commencement Speaker
Acclaimed film director and producer Norman Jewison delivered The Forman School’s commencement address on June 5, 2010.
Jewison has been a force in the film industry since the early 1960s. Films he has directed include The Thomas Crown Affair, In The Heat of the Night, Fiddler on the Roof, Jesus Christ Superstar, Agnes of God and Moonstruck.
He has been nominated for the best director Oscar three times. Overall, his films have received 46 nominations for Academy Awards and won 12 Academy Awards. In 1999, he received the prestigious Irving Thalberg Award at the Academy Awards.
A native of Canada, Jewison has received numerous national honors, including being made an Officer of the Order of Canada, a member of the Order of Ontario, and a Companion to the Order of Canada - the country’s highest civilian honor.
Film industry awards Mr. Jewison has received include those bestowed by the Directors Guild of America, the National Board Review, and American Film Institute.
In 1986, Jewison established the Canadian Film Centre, akin to the American Film Institute in the United States. The CFC offers selected filmmakers’ opportunity to hone their skills to a state-of-the-art level. The Film Centre has honored Mr. Jewison with its inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award.
He is also the grandparent of a current Forman senior.
